Last month we got our first look at Daniel Day-Lewis as the 16th President of the United States in Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln, and now comes the first theatrical trailer for the hotly-anticipated biopic, which made its way online in the early hours of this morning. Based on Doris Kearns Goodwin's biography Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln and scripted by Tony Kushner (Munich), the film sees Lincoln clashing with his cabinet over the abolition of slavery as the American Civil War draws to a close.

Joining Day-Lewis in the cast of Lincoln is an eclectic ensemble that includes Sally Field (The Amazing Spider-Man) as Mary Todd Lincoln, Joseph Gordon-Levitt (The Dark Knight Rises) as Robert Todd Lincoln, Tommy Lee Jones (Men in Black 3) as Thaddeus Stevens, Jared Harris (Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows) as Ulysses S. Grant, David Strathairn (The Bourne Ultimatum) as William Seward, Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen) as Alexander Stephens, Lee Pace (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey) as Fernando Wood, James Spader (Boston Legal) as WN Bilbo, John Hawkes (Martha Marcy May Marlene) as Robert Latham, Walton Goggins (Django Unchained) as Wells A. Hutchins, David Costabile (Breaking Bad) as James Ashley, Bruce McGill (Law Abiding Citizen) as Edwin Stanton and Adam Driver (J. Edgar) as Samuel Beckwith.

Lincoln will receive a limited North American release on November 9th before opening nationwide on November 16th. The film is also scheduled to hit UK cinemas on January 25th, 2013.
