Here at Flickering Myth, we like to occasionally gather our collective minds and discuss a recent piece of news, a trailer or a film. While we may appear like a hulking, unstoppable, single organism, Flickering Myth is actually (industry secret) a hive of writers of differing tastes, backgrounds and opinions. That's why we always make sure the big releases get a 'Second Opinion' review. A while ago, we reacted to the Skyfall trailer.
But there's another resource on the web out there, a fantastic compendium of top-level critics and viewers from all over the world - the YouTube comments section. Below are some of the choice reactions to that latest Bond, Skyfall...
We kick things off with Fubu, presumably a Samoan professional wrestler yet to make the big time. He/She/It simply asks:
It's a valid question. Where, exactly, is Pierce Brosnan? His official website (an exemplary piece of online graphic design) offers a few clues, but no certainties. He could, as the 'activist' tab of the site proclaims, be dedicating his time to "a passionate leadership role in environmental issues...[sic] in addition to his stellar film and television career". Or he may have returned to art, where he was trained, and has continued to paint "numerous landscapes as well as colorful portraits of his family". Poly-possibilities for a modern day polymath.
We can all agree on one thing, however - [SPOILER] - ...he's not in Skyfall.
LeonCambridge shares Fubu's outrage:
For Choueiry Mikel, however, LeonCambridge's decade absence recalls a fonder time:
It's unclear if Choueiry Mikel was expressing shock at his own statement, or he was simply equating Skyfall to the value of zero.
VOLCOManiac91 sought for the root of Skyfall's failure beyond the 'needs more Bron-Homme' critiques:
Unfortunately, VOLCOManiac91's time frantically hammering at the console controllers for those PlayStation 2 Bond games (such as the seminal Nightfire) appear to have given him a spasmodic Caps Lock finger.
TheAlcapone100 (insinuating there are at least 99 other 'The Al Capones') agrees with VOLCOManiac91's assessment:
LullabyOfZombie's exercise in lateral thinking offers another reason for why some found Skyfall so disappointing:
But it's not all well-argued critique for Bond; the YouTube comments contained overwhelming praise for the agent's latest outing, too. Like this, from Moviepro2k:
And we end with Shoaib JK's favourite bit in the film:
No harm offence taken, Shoaib JK. No harm offence taken at all.

"Then maybe you shouldn't be living here." |
LeonCambridge shares Fubu's outrage:
whoa whoa whoa when did this guy become bond? ive been waiting for Pierce Brosnan to show up the last bond movie was die another day and i wait ten years for a new actor?...to which geoprodigyx (he's very good at deciphering Apple Maps) replies, quite unsympathetic to LeonCambridge's confusion:
lmao what an ignorant ****. u got knocked on ur head or something?
For Choueiry Mikel, however, LeonCambridge's decade absence recalls a fonder time:
die another day 007 is the best ,skyfall = 0

Not to be Mean But For me (in my opinion) this was the worst Bond Movie.. Low / Much blah blah / Lack of action Like 25% of the Movie is just action / Gay Villain / & again Bad action.. ima miss The old bonds Style :/ where the Cars threw rockets, Watches threw Lasers & Pens were explosives.. aka Pierce Brosnan Movies* ima also Miss those old days Ps2 bond games sigh* memories xD
Daniel craig Srew this Movies. Just saying

Old james bond had better car that became invisible in snow and fire rocket.... and James bond in 2012 shows a crap car firing bullets hehehehe this was the worst movie i have ever watched i mean james bond movie is full of action this was not at all... this was crappy the only thing i liked was the song of Adele nothing else...Whereas jaybrick8920 manages to make these arguments more concisely:
It didnt have enough action for me an the bad guy was gay
LullabyOfZombie's exercise in lateral thinking offers another reason for why some found Skyfall so disappointing:
why does many movie take place on chiiiiiiiiina these days? LOL i read transformer will be played by mark and took in china, too, anyway only stupid person who can say this is good movie, not that bad but so unbelievably boring!
But it's not all well-argued critique for Bond; the YouTube comments contained overwhelming praise for the agent's latest outing, too. Like this, from Moviepro2k:
I were going to say " I love James Bond movies" with less letters, and i almost wrote "Love JB movies" ...but nvm...Skyfall is one of my favorite movies so far!! :)David McKean was also ecstatic, but more so for breaking the law (Flickering Myth does not condone breaking the law), and that Skyfall was a bit better than Shark Night:
I saw the movie last night and I'm 9. In your face pg 13! There is lots of blood. I've also seen Jaws, Shark night, (by the way, Shark night is not good at all) I even saw Jaws when I was 8.
Definitely suitable for a 9-year-old. |
love the bit where Q says " did U expect a ball pen which explodes??" :P
he ridiculised Goldeneye.... eventhough Golden eye was also awesome( no harm offence intended :P)
No harm offence taken, Shoaib JK. No harm offence taken at all.
