Mark Wahlberg (Pain and Gain) and Stephen Levinson (Entourage) have signed on to produce a remake of Fred Cavayé's French action thriller Point Blank, according to Variety.

The film centres on a happily married nurse working in a Paris hospital. When his very pregnant wife is kidnapped before his helpless eyes, everything falls apart. After being knocked unconscious, he comes to and his cell phone rings: he has three hours to get Sartet, a man under police surveillance, out of the hospital. Samuel quickly finds himself pitted against rival gangsters and trigger-happy police in a deadly race to save the lives of his wife and unborn child.

This is not the first time one of Cavayé’s films have received an American makeover, as his 2008 film Anything for Her - a Prison Break-style action drama focused on a husband who attempts to break his wrongly accused wife out of prison - was given the Hollywood treatment as The Next Three Days, which starred Russell Crowe (Gladiator) and was directed by Paul Haggis (Crash)

There's no mention yet as to whether Wahlberg is eyeing a starring role in the Point Blank remake, but it does seem like quite a good fit for him.
