The first official trailer for Monsters director Gareth Edwards'Godzilla is to be released tomorrow afternoon, and today the viral site www.MutoResearch.net has teased the return of the iconic kaiju. For those yet to visit the site, it seems to be a pseudo-government research website with five garbled clips teasing the destruction. Check them out here...

Meanwhile, thanks to USA Today, we also have three first look images, including a teasing shot of the King of the Monsters...

And speaking to USA Today, Edwards discussed his approach to the character of Godzilla: "To me, he's like a force of nature, like the wrath of God or vengeance for the way we've behaved... If this really happened, it would be like September 11. I want it to be epic. I want to get the hairs on the back of your neck up. Godzilla is the closest thing to being a god as I think there is in terms of a job you could have. You picture something one day and draw it, and the next days it's physical and there in front of you no matter how insane. I've just got a secret fantasy - well, it's not very secret anymore - about living in a world where there's fantastical things like giant creatures and what it would really be like and trying to take it seriously. And there's no bigger or better icon than Godzilla."

Opening on May 16th 2014 in 2D, 3D, and IMAX, Godzilla stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass 2), Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcy May Marlene), Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), Ken Watanabe (Inception), David Strathairn (Lincoln), and Juliette Binoche (The English Patient). The plot, impressively, is still being kept under wraps but we know that Taylor-Johnson and Cranston are to play Army officials, with Olsen appearing as Taylor-Johnson's wife.
