New synopsis and updated cast list for The Amazing Spider-Man 2
We've seen a new poster, we've seen three brief teasers offering up some first-look footage, we've seen a clear shot of the Green Goblin, and now with the first trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 set to arrive on Thursday, we've got an updated synopsis for the Sony superhero sequel...

We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead.

It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.

As well as the new synopsis, Sony has also issued an updated cast last for the sequel, with Garfield, Stone, Foxx and DeHaan joined by the returning Sally Field (Aunt May), Embeth Davidtz (Mary Parker) and Campbell Scott (Richard Parker) alongside Paul Giamatti (Saving Mr. Banks) and Colm Feore (Thor). Conspicious by their absence are Chris Cooper (American Beauty), who is set to play Norman Osborn, and Felicity Jones (Like Crazy), who has been heavily rumoured to appear as Felicia Hardy, a.k.a. Black Cat. Could it be that these characters have gone the way of Shailene Woodley's Mary-Jane Watson and be held back until 2016's The Amazing Spider-Man 3, or is director Marc Webb hoping to keep a surprise or two under wraps before the film opens in the Spring?
