Spike Lee's remake of Park Chan-wook's 2003 Korean film Oldboy, which is adapted from a manga, is due in the next couple weeks and IGN is posting a prequel comic entitled The Devil's Eyes every Tuesday for the next two weeks. It focuses on a character named Chaney, played by Samuel L. Jackson (The Avengers) in the movie, and the hotel where Josh Brolin's protagonist will be held for 20 years.
The web series has been produced by Jason Badower and Rich Silverman and the artwork is absolutely gorgeous, completely fitting in with the washed out and muted tone of the original and the remake. This is the kind of viral marketing I like and will definitely be checking this out. I'm curious how much input Spike Lee has had on the comic, and I'm also curious to see how this remake turns out.
Will you be reading the prequel comic and watching the remake? Let us know in the comments...
Oldboy is set for release on November 27th in North America and December 7th in the UK sees Brolin and Jackson joined in the cast by Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcy May Marlene), Sharlto Copley (Elysium), Richard Portnow (Law Abiding Citizen), Michael Imperioli (The Sopranos) and Lance Reddick (The Wire).
