Back in July it was announced that The CW and Warner Bros. Television were to expand their roster of small screen DC characters by spinning off a Flash show from the hit superhero series Arrow, and now the search for Barry Allen has come to an end with The Hollywood Reporter revealing that Grant Gustin (90210, Glee) has secured the role of the Scarlet Speedster.
"I’m unbelievably excited," said Gustin, who was originally pinpointed as one of three actors screen testing for the role of The Flash earlier this week by Latino Review, with the other two candidates being Matt Barr (Parkland) and James Mackay (The Straits). "I’ve been a lifelong fan of DC Comics, so I can’t be more honored and can’t wait to get started."
Gustin is set to appear in episodes eight, nine and twenty of Arrow season two, with the latter acting as a backdoor pilot for the character's own series created by Arrow's Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and director David Nutter (DC's Geoff Johns will also contribute to the three scripts).
The Flash is one of a number of DC characters set to debut in season two of Arrow, with other new arrivals including Cynthia Addai-Robinson (Spartacus) as Amanda Waller, Summer Glau (Firefly) as Isabel Rochev, Caity Lotz (The Pact) as Black Canary, Michael Jai White (The Dark Knight) as Bronze Tiger, Kevin Alejandro (True Blood) as Brother Blood and Bex Taylor-Klaus (The Killing) as Sin. Here's a new promo for the forthcoming season, which also includes comments from leading man Stephen Amell...
