Earlier this month it was reported that Universal Pictures had given the green light for screenwriter Anthony Peckham (Sherlock Holmes) to start work on a script for a sequel to The Bourne Legacy, once again starring Jeremy Renner as Aaron Cross. However, if a new report is to be believed, it seems that Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Ultimatum) could be set for a return to the franchise for its fifth instalment.
According to Twitch Film, Universal is in negotiations with both Damon and Greengrass, although Damon's involvement is dependent on Greengrass signing on the dotted line. Meanwhile, the site is also reporting that the studio intends on keeping Renner's black ops agent in the mix with a "crossover/merger" of the Jason Bourne and Aaron Cross storylines. Of course, this could be little more than a rumour, but with The Bourne Legacy failing to replicate the critical or commercial success of its predecessor, you'd have to expect the studio to be very keen on having Matt Damon return to the franchise.
