Here's some rather exciting news for Batman fans... no, Christopher Nolan hasn't announced a fourth instalment of his Dark Knight saga, but rather Bruce Timm - co-creator of the classic Batman: The Animated Series and godfather of the DC Animated Universe - has revealed that he's developing a new black-and-white Batman short for Cartoon Network's DC Nation programming block, which will apparently have an old-school style reminiscent of the Bob Kane era of the Batman comic books.

Timm recently stepped down as supervising producer of DC Comics' various animated output, having steered Warner Bros. Animation's superhero output since the debut of Batman: The Animated Series back in 1992, overseeing the rest of the DC Animated Universe through to Justice League: Unlimited, as well as Warner Premiere's direct-to-video DC Universe Animated Original Movies line. His most recent contribution was that of the recently-cancelled Green Lantern: The Animated Series, which he developed alongside Giancarlo Volpe and Jim Krieg. However, it seems that he's not quite finished with DC's superheroes - in addition to the new Batman short, he's also working with Man of Steel director Zack Snyder to produce a special animated Superman short in celebration of the character's 75th anniversary.
