Universal Pictures has picked up the option on a big screen adaptation Locke & Key, the acclaimed comic book series from writer Joe Hill (son of Stephen King) and artist Gabriel Rodriguez, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed.
Published by IDW, the supernatural series centres on the Locke family, who move to their ancestral New England home the Keyhouse where they discover magical keys that unlocs the mansion's many secrets and grant the bearers impossible powers and abilities. However, Keyhouse is also home to a demonic creature called Dodge is also looking to harness the keys' powers for its own nefarious agenda.
Locke & Key will be produced by Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci (Star Trek Into Darkness), who have held the rights to the series since 2010 and developed a TV pilot alongside Steven Spielberg (Lincoln) back in 2011, which was directed by Mark Romanek (Never Let Me Go) and starred Mirando Otto (The Lord of the Rings), Sarah Bolger (Once Upon a Time), Nick Stahl (Sin City) and Jesse McCartney (Chernobyl Diaries).
