Do you have an idea for an action, sci-fi or effects driven short film?  If so a new competition being run by a digital media company and the studio responsible for Fight Club (1999) and L.A. Confidential (1997) will see eight aspiring filmmakers receive $20,000 to direct their cinematic vision with one of them securing a feature film development deal.

“Prototype is a way to discover and cultivate talent by providing them with the financing, distribution, and access to the entertainment industry that they wouldn’t otherwise have,” stated Greg Siegel, SVP Entertainment Development, Break Media in a company press release.  “Our partnership with New Regency will help aspiring filmmakers break through to larger audiences than they have traditionally had online.”

Creative executives from Break Media and New Regency will assist the eight selectees to produce a 5 to 10 minute short which will be distributed to the formers’ web, mobile, YouTube and OTT platforms in Fall 2013 with the overall winner being announced in early 2014.  “Digital platforms have proven to be a hub for exciting new intellectual property and talent,” noted David Manpearl, SVP of Production, New Regency. “We’re excited to partner with Break Media, one of the leaders in digital entertainment content, to uncover and cultivate the future of our industry online.”

In order to participate contestants have to submit a short film script, treatment for their full-length feature and a directing sample via the official website for Break Media by August 31, 2013.
