Regardless of the fact Alex Ross is no longer doing the covers for the new Star Wars series, the book is still eye catching when you see it on the racks.
Brian Wood is still taking these iconic characters through new adventures, during that 5 year period after the battle of Yavin. We never actually got to see Leia’s leadership or skills as a pilot, not to mention her tactical strengths, but Wood has created a whole new persona for the Princess throughout this series. Maybe Leia inherited more fighter pilot knowledge from her father than we ever knew?
After the last battle the scenes and scenarios are still quite detailed, and you can immediately think of seeing this on the big screen! Even the way Wood describes an Imperial Class Star Destroyer is so well worded, you can actually imagine how the Rebellion would have felt seeing one these massive behemoth wedges.
There are a couple of great moments in this book, but for me none were better than the one line from Vader. The issue ends on a bit of a macabre note (not unlike The Empire Strikes Back), but if I know anything about this book, it's that with every low point, there comes a glorious high point for the Rebellion.
It’s safe to say that even though there are a myriad of Star Wars pop culture bits you could consume out there, this series is one that actually delivers the goods.
