Last month Warner Home Entertainment released the first instalment of its two-part animated adaptation of Frank Miller's seminal comic book tale Batman: The Dark Knight Returns (which, if you're yet to see, is fantastic), and after screening footage from the concluding chapter at the New York Comic Con this past weekend, WB has now debuted the trailer for Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 2, which arrived online earlier today via MTV.
Having donned the cape and cowl once more to defeat the Mutant Leader, Part 2 sees Batman leading the newly-formed vigilante gang the Sons of Batman in an effort to protect Gotham after a nuclear winter descends over the city following the detonation of a warhead. The Dark Knight's reemergence also causes his arch-nemesis The Joker to awaken from a state of catatonia in Arkham, and while Gotham's new Police Commissioner Ellen Yindel leads a manhunt against Batman, the US government decides to dispatch the Man of Steel to put an end to Batman's crusade once and for all.
Lending their voices to the cast of Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 2 are Peter Weller (RoboCop) as Bruce Wayne / Batman, Ariel Winter (Modern Family) as Carrie Kelley / Robin, Michael Emerson (Lost) as The Joker, Mark Valley (Human Target) as Clark Kent / Superman, David Selby (The Social Network) as Jim Gordon, Michael McKean (This Is Spinal Tap) as Dr. Bartholomew Wolper, Maria Canals (Justice League) as Ellen Yindel and Paget Brewster (Criminal Minds) as Lana Lang.
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 2 will be released next year.
