On the latest edition of Kermode Uncut, the quiff connoisseur critic voices his main concern with Zack Snyder's upcoming Man of Steel - what are Superman's weaknesses? You can watch it below...
It's an issue many people have with the character. A man of seemingly infinite strength, invulnerability and the power to reverse time can be a little tricky to relate to. There's always the odd human relationships that can be exploited, or a handy rock of Kryptonite laying about, but both seem a little stale.
What Kermode doesn't address is Superman's reliance on sunlight. I just finished re-reading The Dark Knight Returns, and there's a quite tremendous sequence where Superman is heavily weakened and withered after a post-nuclear dust cloud blocks his main source of power. What do y'all think?
Man of Steel is directed by Zack Snyder (Sucker Punch), written by David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight Rises), produced by Charles Roven (The Dark Knight) and Deborah Snyder (Watchmen) and stars Henry Cavill (Superman), Michael Shannon (General Zod), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Russell Crowe (Jor-El), Kevin Costner (Jonathan Kent) and Antje Traue (Faora).
Man of Steel opens on June 14th.
