UK box office top ten and analysis for the weekend of Friday 3rd to Sunday 5th May 2013...
Marvel's Iron Man 3 continued its stellar box office run by sucking the life out of the rest of the UK chart for the second weekend in a row, banking £6.3m to absolutely demolish the competition and take its total haul to £24.6m. Iron Man 3 is already the highest-grossing Iron Man movie on these shores, and second only to The Avengers in terms of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (for comparison, The Avengers was on £29.8m at this point last year). Taking into account takings over the past few days, it's also second only to Les Miserables for the biggest release of the year so far - a title it should comfortably claim in the next few weeks, despite the arrival of Star Trek Into Darkness.
Turning to the newcomers and four new arrivals managed to make an appearance in the top ten this past weekend, the best of which was the alcohol-fueled comedy 21 and Over, which pulled in £772,235 to claim second place. Family dance flick All Stars banked a somewhat disappointing £563,563 in fourth, while the Colin Farrell thriller Dead Man Down also performed poorly with just £294,125 down in eighth. In fact, the only other film with something to shout about was Pedro Almodovar's I'm So Excited, which opened in seventh with £310,908 from a limited run on just 87 screens.
