Zachary Quinto as Spock in Star Trek Into Darkness
We've seen quite a few trailers and TV spots for Star Trek Into Darkness over the past couple of months, and with less than a month to go before the crew of the USS Enterprise go up against Benedict Cumberbatch's (Sherlock) mysterious bad guy John Harrison, Paramount Pictures has now released the first clip from the hotly-anticipated sci-fi sequel.

Taken from the IMAX prologue, the clip sees Kirk (Chris Pine) and company attempting to rescue Spock (Zachary Quinto) from an active volcano, but of course the needs of the many outweigh... the needs of the few (or the one); check it out after the official synopsis...

"When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew."

Star Trek Into Darkness is directed by J.J. Abrams, and sees Zoe Saldana (Uhura), Karl Urban (Bones), Simon Pegg (Scotty), John Cho (Sulu), Anton Yelchin (Checkov) and Bruce Greenwood (Pike) all reprising their roles from 2009's Star Trek, while Cumberbatch is joined by fellow newcomers Alice Eve (Men in Black 3) and Peter Weller (RoboCop). The film opens in the UK on May 9th ahead of a North American release on May 17th.
