It’s been seven years since the release of Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller’s cult comic book adaptation Sin City, and since that time fans have faced an anxious wait as the long-rumoured follow-up, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, appeared to slip in and out of development hell. However, Rodriguez confirmed back in April that production would begin on Sin City 2 once filming wrapped on another of his sequels, Machete Kills, and now star Rosario Dawson has announced that cameras will start rolling on A Dame to Kill For later this year.

"I'm not sure if I'm supposed to say that, but I'm going to say November, I'm going to be honest and put it out there," said Dawson (via MTV), who will reprise her role as Gail, leader of the prostitutes of Old Town, before elaborating a little on what we can expect from the next movie: “It's sort of a prequel to the Sin City we've already watched, so you'll understand the references we were making in that one. The new face thing [for Dwight McCarthy], all of that interesting stuff. You might have to figure out which one's me at some point… We're going to play with that.”

The script for Sin City: A Dame to Kill For has been written by Miller and Rodriguez, along with Oscar-winning scribe William Monahan (The Departed). In addition to Dawson, several actors from the original are already confirmed as returning for the sequel, including Jessica Alba as Nancy Callahan, Clive Owen as Dwight McCarthy, Mickey Rourke as Marv and Michael Madsen as Bob, while Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Rose McGowan and Rachel Weisz have all been rumoured for the role of Dwight’s old flame, Ava Lord.
