We already know that Michael Bay intends on replacing the human cast of his Transformers movie series for the upcoming fourth installment, but now comes word from Hasbro President Brian Goldner that Transformers 4 will go one step further, presenting a complete overhaul of the franchise by featuring a entirely new line-up of Autobots and Decepticons. The reason for such drastic action? Why toy sales, of course…
Speaking at the UBS Best of Americas Conference, Goldner has stated that despite the box office performance of Transformers: Dark of the Moon – which grossed over $1.123 billion globally - the film did little to boost Hasbro’s Transformers toy sales, and because of that “Transformers 4 will have a new cast of [robot] characters and it will be a story revolving around these new characters.”
Now I’m sure there won’t be too many tears shed over the absence of Shia LaBeouf and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and it would be entirely understandable if Megatron was dropped in favour of a new villain, but is there really anybody out there who wants to see a Transformers movie sans Optimus Prime? I know I don’t… then again, I don't really want to see another Michael Bay Transformers movie, so I guess I'm going to be disappointed either way.
