You’re six films into a classic horror franchise, and it’s plain to see that things have gone completely down hill. What do you do? Churn out yet another sequel / remake / sequel-to-a-remake, or simply forget about the previous five movies in favour of delivering a direct follow-up to the original? Well, if you’re Lionsgate and Millennium Entertainment, you opt for the latter, and that’s exactly what they’ve done with Texas Chainsaw 3D, a low-budget straight-up sequel to Tobe Hooper’s 1974 classic The Texas Chain Saw Massacre from director John Luessenhop (Takers), which has just received its first theatrical trailer today.
Picking up decades after the original, Texas Chainsaw 3D sees a young woman named Heather (Alexandra Daddario; Percy Jackson & the Lightning Thief) embarking on a road trip with four friends to the backwoods town of Newt, Texas to collect an inheritance from a grandmother she never knew existed. Upon her arrival, Heather learns she’s now the proud owner of a lavish Victorian mansion, but her joy is presumably short lived when she discovers that the estate also includes a chainsaw-wielding psychopath, who just so happens to be her cousin…
Texas Chainsaw 3D is scheduled for release on January 4th, 2013.
