After the hugely successful television adaptation of The Walking Dead, studios are now on the lookout for the next big comic book that they can bring to the small screen. The latest one making the leap is The Sixth Gun created by Cullen Bunn and Brian Hurtt and released through Oni Press. First released on “Free Comic Book” day in 2010, it has, over the years gathered a following due to its supernatural and western themed storyline.
The story revolves around six magical guns that cannot be taken from their owner until death, and the problems that arise from this and what happens if someone were to possess all six of them.
After a fruitless attempt by the SyFy Channel to adapt the comic in 2011, NBC has now acquired the rights and is in the process of creating a pilot for the show, with Carlton Cuse, the producer of Lost, attached as the producer for this series.
The cast is shaping up more and more each day, and at the moment stands at the following: Laura Ramsey (Middle Men) as Becky Montcrief, W. Earl Brown (The Lone Ranger) as General Hume, Graham McTavish (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey) as Silas Hedgepeth, Aldis Hodge (Leverage) as Agent Mercer, Michiel Huisman (World War Z) as Drake Sinclair, Pedro Pascal (The Adjustment Bureau) as Special Agent Ortega, James LeGros (Ally McBeal) as Bill John O’Henry, Elena Satine (Magic City) as Missy Hume and Chin Han (The Dark Knight) as Chow.
As a huge fan of the comic, I would highly recommend reading up on it before the show comes out, so that you can sit and see if there any differences between the source material and the finished product, like I know everyone did with The Walking Dead when it first came out!
