Currently being shown at the Venice Film Festival, Millenium Films have released a trailer for The Iceman. Directed by Ariel Vromen (Danika), the film stars Michael Shannon as Richard Kuklinski. Whilst appearing to be a devoted Husband and Father, he has another role in life…a Mafia hitman. This film has enjoyed quite a bit of hype, which from the looks of this trailer seems justified.
Based on a true story, Shannon is joined by Winona Ryder as his wife Deborah, Chris Evans (in a refreshingly different turn) as fellow hitman Robert ‘Mr Softee’ Pronge and Ray Liotta as mobster Roy DeMeo. The cast is rounded out by James Franco, David Schwimmer and Stephen Dorff.
The film looks gritty and no-nonsense, depicting Kuklinski’s career over several decades, as well as his relationships with his family and co-workers. He doesn’t kill women or children, but when he is given a task, he is cool and calculating. A scene in the trailer between him and Franco’s victim is gripping, with The Iceman (a name given to him due to his nature of disposing of victims) waiting as his victim prays. “You praying? Think God’s gonna save you?” asks Kuklinski. “Guess God’s busy.”
Looking forward to this one. No general release date, but keep it on your radar.
