We've seen a number of character posters for Marvel's upcoming superhero sequel Iron Man 3 over the past couple of weeks (see War Machine, Aldrich Killian, The Mandarin and Pepper Potts), and now it's time for Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark to take centre stage. Disney has just released the following 'Payoff' poster, which sees a battered and bruised Iron Man (who looks to be seething with Hulk-like rage), as well as giving us a glimpse at some of Stark's additional suits of armor:
So, it looks as if the speculation about whether the 'Deep Space Suit' will make an appearance on screen has finally been laid to rest, and its inclusion certainly adds credence to the rumours about a post-credits sequence to set up Guardians of the Galaxy. It also begs the question whether James Gunn's Guardians adaptation will adopt the current Marvel NOW! line-up, and I have to say I'd not be surprised in the slightest if Robert Downey Jr. joins the cast of next year's 'big space epic', despite the fact his contract with Marvel Studios is up after Iron Man 3.
Anyway, in addition to the poster, Disney also offered up the following character description, which gives us a little insight into Tony's psyche going in to his third solo outing:
"Eccentric genius, billionaire, philanthropist Tony Stark is the armored super hero known as Iron Man. Decompressing from his heroic, near-self-sacrificial action as Iron Man that saved New York City from annihilation, Tony finds himself unable to sleep and plagued by worry and trepidation. When his world is destroyed and those closest to him threatened, Tony must find a way to save them—and in the process find himself again."
Meanwhile, Yahoo Movies! debuted a new banner, as well as confirming that the next theatrical trailer will arrive online next Tuesday, March 5th:
Iron Man 3 is directed by Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) and sees Robert Downey Jr. joined in the cast by Gwyneth Paltrow (Contagion) as Pepper Potts, Don Cheadle (House of Lies) as Rhodey / War Machine), Ben Kingsley (Hugo) as The Mandarin, Guy Pearce (Prometheus) as Aldrich Killian, James Badge Dale (The Lone Ranger) as Eric Savin / Coldblood, Ashley Hamilton (Sunset Beach) as Jack Taggert / Firepower, Rebecca Hall (The Town) as Maya Hansen and Jon Favreau (Identity Thief) as Happy Hogan. The film is released in the UK on April 26th and arrives in North America on May 3rd.
