As we begin our fifth year here at Flickering Myth, we're looking to expand our writing team and currently have openings for talented new contributors with an interest in film, TV and comic books. If this sounds like something you'd be interested in, then read on for details...
What We're Looking For
While we're happy for our contributors to write across any area of film, TV and comic books (including news, reviews and features), we are particularly keen to expand in the following areas:
Film / TV News
Regular TV / Comic Book Reviews
Film, TV and Comic Book Articles, Opinions and Features
Ideally we're looking for regular writers, particularly with regards to film and TV news, or regular weekly / monthly reviews of your favourite TV shows / comic books. However, if you've got a great idea for a one-off feature or the occasional article, feel free to get in touch too.
What's In It For Me?
Okay, so what do you get out of it? Well first of all, you get the opportunity to have your work read by an audience of 275,000 readers per month and growing, as well as the chance to attend screenings, press events and interviews, or get your hands on the occasional freebie.
At this point, you're probably expecting us to roll out the old "all our contributors work on a voluntary basis" and "at present we can't afford to pay you" line, but we're not the type of site to sit back and fill our piggy bank while you do all of the writing for free. So, we can afford to pay you... we just can't afford to pay you very much.
Every quarter, we divide out our advertising revenue between our writing team based upon the number of contributions in the period, although sadly even for our most active contributors this doesn't really stretch to more than a couple of DVDs (or maybe even Blu-rays, if you've been really busy!). So, while we do offer the chance to get a little extra pocket money every three months, if cash is your primary motivator then you'll be better off looking elsewhere.
What Skills and Experience Do I Need?
No experience is necessary, although we would expect a good level of spelling and grammar, as well as a genuine interest and passion in your chosen area, and the ability to meet deadlines. And if you're not a regular reader of Flickering Myth, please take a moment to look through our site and familiarise yourself with out content.
Sounds Good - What Next?
If this sounds appealing and you'd like to apply to join our writing team, drop us an email with a brief summary of any experience you may have, and the areas you'd be interested in covering. Be sure to include a writing sample from your specific area (a short news story, a review etc.), or links to work previously published online, and please only get in touch if you're serious about your application.
