CBS Television is in the process of developing an American version of the BBC crime drama Second Sight with Jason Lee (Chasing Amy, My Name is Earl) attached to play the lead.
The original series BBC series starred Clive Owen (The Bourne Identity, Sin City) as Detective Chief Inspector Ross Tanner, a maverick cop who undergoes an experimental treatment to hide the fact that he's going blind. According to TV Line, the American version will be set in New Orleans and will focus on Tanner concealing the fact that he has an ocular disorder which causes him to have horrifying, visually stimulating anxiety dreams and hallucinations. Assured by his doctor that he will not go blind, Tanner is encouraged to think of the side effects as a “gift,” signposts from his subconscious that help him solve crimes.
Lee has a rich history in television, starring in My Name is Earl which ran over four seasons from 2005-2009, and he has also appeared in TV shows such as Memphis Beat, Raising Hope and Up All Night. Carol Mendelsohn (CSI) will executive produce the pilot with Michael Cuesta (Homeland) directing from a script he co-wrote with his brother Gerald Cuesta.
