Ed Helms is set to step into the shoes of Leslie Nielsen as Sergeant Frank Drebin, Detective Lieutenant Police Squad, with Variety revealing that Paramount has cast The Hangover and We're the Millers star in a reboot of the 80s comedy classic The Naked Gun. The project is being written by Thomas Lennon and R. Ben Garant (Night at the Museum) as is described as "a new spin on the Drebin character."
Created by Jim Abrahams, David Zucker and Jerry Zucker, Frank Drebin made his debut in the 1982 series Police Squad!, with Nielsen then going on to star in the feature films The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!, The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear and Naked Gun 33⅓: The Final Insult between 1988 and 1991, with the trilogy grossing over $275 million at the box-office.
