Zombies and Vampires invade the city that never sleeps courtesy of legendary filmmaker George A. Romero (Dawn of the Dead) who has collaborated with Eisner Award winning artist Alex Maleev to produce a new Marvel comic book series.

Welcome to New York City years after a horrifying plague has swept the nation. The Big Apple is a quarantine zone – but that doesn’t guarantee safety inside! Flesh-eating zombies roam within the remains of Manhattan – and they are not alone. Vampires lurk in the shadows as well, feasting on the living and the undead alike – and no one is safe!

“Like a surgeon, George Romero is once again using the horror genre as a scalpel, cutting through the surface of everyday life to expose society’s undercurrents,” stated editor Bill Rosemann. “One could say that the vampires are the Haves and the zombies are the Have-Nots.  And us poor humans? We’re the ones getting caught in the crossfire of their escalating war. It’s a violent clash indeed, and Alex Maleev is bringing this undead battle to horrifying – but beautiful – life!”

George A. Romero Empire of the Dead #1 which features a variant cover by Arthur Suydam arrives on January 8, 2014.

The human race also has another extinction problem to contend with devised by the creative team of Sam Humphries and André Araújo for Avengers A.I. 8.NOW.

The war between organics and the artificial intelligence has destroyed the world of tomorrow. Dimitrios, the vengeance-seeking A.I. Hank Pym accidentally created when he destroyed Ultron has wrought death and destruction in his quest to eradicate the human race. NOW, The Vision and his robot Avengers squad must team up with the Uncanny Avengers to rescue humankind from complete extinction! And Dimitrios’ plan has consequences that reach far, far into the future – all the way to 12,000AD!

Avengers A.I. 8.NOW which includes a cover by David Marquez and a variant by Christian War goes on sale January 8, 2014.
