FilmDistrict have acquired the US distribution rights to Millennium Films’ Olympus Has Fallen. The company which has previously distributed films such as Looper and Red Dawn is set to distribute the new movie starring Gerard Butler (Machine Gun Preacher), Aaron Eckhart (The Dark Knight), Morgan Freeman (The Shawshank Redemption) and Angela Basset (This Means War).

Deadline reports that the action thriller, which is directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) and written by Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt, centres on Butler who plays a disgraced Secret Service agent who is called back to duty when the White House is taken over by terrorists. Eckhart will play the U.S. President, while Bassett will play the head of the Secret Service.

The movie also stars Robert Forster (Jackie Brown), Cole Hauser (The Break Up), Ashley Judd (Double Jeopardy), Melissa Leo (The Fighter), Dylan McDermott (In the Line of Fire), Radha Mitchell (Silent Hill) and Rick Yune (The Fast and the Furious).

FilmDistrict's Peter Schlessel said: "Olympus is a great action thriller that will keep audiences guessing and on the edge of their seat. Everyone at FilmDistrict is happy to be in business again with Avi, Mark and the team at Millennium and with a film starring Gerry Butler, who also stars in Playing for Keeps."

FilmDistrict plans to release the film on April 5, 2013.
