With two weekends to go before arrival of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire should have no trouble overtaking its predecessor, which earned $691.2 million ($408 million from North America and $283.2 million). The film is reportedly doing double the business of The Hunger Games in most markets, so there's a good chance that it could go on to break the $1 billion mark globally, which would make it the second film to do so this year, but only time will tell whether it will have enough in the tank to challenge Iron Man 3's $1.215 billion for the title of the year's biggest-earner.
