FX has proven time and time again that it is simply the best network when it comes to picking up original tv shows. HBO has several great shows, but FX has handfuls of great original programming. Wilfred, American Horror Story, Archer, The Bridge, Louie... the list goes on and on.
I was just thinking to myself, "I miss when vampires were sexy and scary". So the announcement that FX has picked up a 13 episode vampire drama from Guillermo del Toro (Pacific Rim) is music to my ears. The show is produced by Chuck Hogan and Cartlon Cuse and is based on del Toro and Hogan's book series of the same name; it is set to premiere in July 2014, with Cuse taking up the mantle as showrunner.
The Strain comes at a time where vampires are basically played out and with True Blood not getting renewned next season this opens up a big hole in the market for The Strain. Words simply cannot express how excited I am for this. Del Toro is somebody who think works best when he's as hands on as possible and initially I was worried this might have just been him putting his name on a project, a la Steven Spielberg. But he's adapting his own material, which should hopefully mean he'll be heavily involved.
Anybody else looking forward to The Strain? Let us know in the comments...
