Captain America: The Winter Soldier. X-Men: Days of Future Past. The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Seems that these days, you can't have a big Marvel sequel without a subtitle, and that's also the case for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which has reportedly received the subtitle Rise of Electro... for its release in Brazil at least, where Cinepop is reporting that it's going by the name O Espetacular Homem-Aranha 2: A Ameaça de Electro.
This isn't the first time that there's been talk of a subtitle for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, with rumours circulating a few months back that Sony was testing The Amazing Spider-Man: The Price of Power and The Amazing Spider-Man: With Great Power, both of which are appalling if you ask me. And with the studio and director Marc Webb seemingly building towards the Sinister Six for either The Amazing Spider-Man 3 or The Amazing Spider-Man 4, Rise of Electro would certainly be appropriate. Of course, it also brings back memories of Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer, and we all know how that turned out...
Subtitle or not, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set to hit cinemas on May 2nd 2014, with returning cast members Andrew Garfield (Peter Parker / Spider-Man), Emma Stone (Gwen Stacy), Sally Field (Aunt May) and Martin Sheen (Uncle Ben) joined by Spidey newcomers Jamie Foxx (White House Down) as Electro, Paul Giamatti (Saving Mr. Banks) as The Rhino, Dane DeHaan (Chronicle) as Harry Osborn, Chris Cooper (The Muppets) as Norman Osborn and Colm Feore (Thor) and Felicity Jones (Like Crazy) in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
