It was recently announced that Mission: Impossible 5 will come out on Christmas Day 2015, and while we know that star Tom Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie are attached, there's been no news on the supporting cast. Until now. Simon Pegg (The World's End, Star Trek Into Darkness) was asked about Mission: Impossible 5 during an interview with MTV, and came straight out with an answer and said he's certainly coming back.
Mission Impossible - Ghost Protocol was a great movie and one of the reasons why was its ensemble cast. As The Lord of The Rings, The Avengers, Toy Story and several other movies have shown us, having a team is a great way to add a constant sense of fun and can make up for the rest of a movie's shortcomings. Anybody remember the villain in Ghost Protocol? Anyone roll their eyes when Ethan Hunt was betrayed by someone in the organization? How many times do I have to watch a spy movie when without missing a beat the protagonist goes, "This one is off the books, if we get caught we'll be tried for treason".
But, nobody remembered the villain and nobody rolled their eyes at the story because they were having so much fun with this new team dynamic that was introduced. For the first two movies, and to a lesser extent the third one, these have just been "Tom Cruise leaps onto stuff, while his team talks to him through an ear piece". Now these are actually about the team, and the acclaim and box office take reflects this. So, this is good news. I hope the entire supporting cast comes back, even Ving Rhames, so that Tom Cruise has people to play off and interact with to keep things fresh and fun.
