Mission: Impossible 5 gets a Christmas 2015 release date

Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol made almost $700 million two years ago, and much like Skyfall it benefited from lack of real competition.  So Paramount Pictures has decided to release the next instalment a week after Star Wars: Episode VII and Warcraft, ultimately setting it up to make a lot less money, on December 25th, 2015.

There's still a lot unknown about Mission: Impossible 5 other than the director, Christopher McQuarrie who did uncredited script work on the fourth installment in the franchise and also directed Tom Cruise in Jack Reacher, and its writer Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3).  J.J. Abrams is returning to produce.

It seems studio still don't understand that competition is never good for a movie's take, and 2015 is already flooded with big blockbusters (The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man, Batman vs. Superman to name but a few), so don't be surprised to see the date change in the months leading up to the release.
