To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who (the longest running science fiction show in the world), the BBC have lined up a number of great one offs to mark the day. These include:-

- 75 minute special Doctor Who episode called The Day of The Doctor starring David Tennant, Matt Smith, Billie Piper, Jenna-Louise Coleman and John Hurt.

- Prof. Brian Cox presenting a lecture on the science of the show and the drama An Adventure in Space and Time, a one-off show based around William Hartnell, the first incarnation of the Doctor. David Bradley (Filch from Harry Potter) will be playing Hartnell.

- BBC Four will be showing, in a restored format, the first Doctor story An Unearthly Child, shown in its original four episode release. This restored format has never been broadcast before to the UK.

- The Culture Show (BBC Two) will be showing, Me, You and Doctor Who, with Matthew Sweet who is a lifelong fan. He will be exploring the cultural significance of Doctor Who.

- BBC Radio 2 will be asking Who is the Doctor?, using exclusive archived records and newly-recorded interviews to attempt to answer the question.

- CBBC will show 12 Again, bringing Doctors, Assistants and Guest Stars of Who together for interviews about the shows history and its meaning to them.

- Blue Peter will be launching a competition giving children between six and 14 the chance to design a new gadget that will appear in the show and Matt Smith will be in the studio answering viewers’ questions.

- BBC 3 will be getting their audience involved and voting in Doctor Who: Monsters and Villains Weekend. A whole jam packed Who event; this is great for Who fans, but not so for any significant others that despise the show.
