42 star Chadwick Boseman has been chosen to portray the godfather of soul, James Brown, in a new biopic. Director Tate Taylor (The Help) will direct the film and Brian Grazer (A Beautiful Mind) is set to produce.
The film will follow the superstar from poverty to prosperity throughout the '60s and '70s as he busts out iconic hit after hit and leaves his raw soul stamp on the music industry. Grazer has been trying to get a biopic about James Brown made for over a decade now and has just received the green light.
Boseman was quite the delight in 42; I thought he played Jackie Robinson very well and 42 ended up being one of the better biopics in a good while. Let’s hope he can bring that some charm to playing a singer like James Brown.
