Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy has been shooting at the "alien crash site" set in Surrey today, with a batch of set photos arriving online which give us our first look at Michael Rooker (The Walking Dead) as Yondu, a founding member of the cosmic superhero team....

Meanwhile, inside the issue (via ComicBookMovie), Marvel chief Kevin Feige has offered up the first real story details from the film: "[The Guardians of the Galaxy] are an unlikely band. It's pure circumstance that brings them all together throughout the course of the movie. Rocket has been genetically and mechanically altered, he's an experiment from one part of the galaxy. Groot is a species that happens to look like trees look, and is quite communicative if you can understand the different inflections in the way he says, "I am Groot." Peter Quill left Earth in the mid'80s, but when we meet back up with him he's very much a citizen of the universe. Drax has one goal and one goal only, which is to kill Ronan because of a past tragedy. When we meet Gamora, she's a bad guy working with Ronan and Nebula and Korath, and by extension for Thanos. Gamora doesn't necessarily like doing that anymore, and tries to find a new path for herself. But she has a reputation as the deadliest woman in the galaxy that people aren't greeting her with open arms."
Guardians of the Galaxy is set for release on August 1st 2014, with James Gunn (Super) directing a cast that also includes Chris Pratt (Parks and Recreation) as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana (Star Trek Into Darkness) as Gamora, Dave Bautista (Riddick) as Drax the Destroyer, Benicio Del Toro (Sin City) as The Collector, Lee Pace (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug) as Ronan the Accuser, Karen Gillan (Doctor Who) as Nebula, John C. Reilly (Step Brothers) as Rhomman Dey, Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond) as Korath the Pursuer and Glenn Close (Damages) as the leader of the Nova Corps, while Vin Diesel (Riddick) and Bradley Cooper (Silver Linings Playbook) are said to be favourites to voice Groot and Rocket Raccoon.
