Re-envisioning the exploits of famous explorers Captain Meriwether Lewis and Second Lieutenant William Clark and their quest in 1804 to travel to the western coast of North America is the basis of a new series from Image Comics imprint Skybound.
Lewis and Clark embark on a secret mission under direct orders from President Thomas Jefferson. They are going to do more than explore the wild frontier: they’re going to catalogue exotic life and eliminate the monsters that stand in the way of the safe and rapid expansion of the United States.
“I'm fascinated by the pop culture phenomenon of taking historical characters, both real and fictional, and placing them in big, fake, extraordinary adventures,” stated Chris Dingess (Being Human) who has teamed with artist Matthew Roberts (Battle Pope) to create Manifest Destiny. “I'm also intrigued by the modern world's growing obsession with vast government conspiracies, both real and fictional. I was excited to take these two concepts and make them have a baby. And Matt Roberts has made this baby very pretty.” Roberts remarked, “Chris has written such a crazy, fun adventure, but he always leaves me enough rope to hang myself in the details. For example, I had no clue how in vogue popped up collars were in the early 19th century. That and leather chokers. Researching and drawing all these things is such a turn from drawing shiny, spandexed muscles. I'm having a blast.”
Manifest Destiny #1arrives on November 13, 2013 and is available to be pre-ordered from the September issue of Previews.
While American G.I.s were fighting the Viet Cong their homeland was being overtaken by the walking dead.
A passenger train derails as a result of a zombie attack, causing the death of hundreds. Survivors of the wreck find sanctuary in a small rural church, hoping to hold out against the coming swarms of living dead. Their only hope rests on the shoulders of two soldiers, both recently returned from Vietnam. One sits in the belfry, taking out zombies from afar, while the other defends the barricaded sanctuary against the onslaught. But will their efforts be enough?
"When comics artist and long-time friend Josh Medors passed away last year, the book he was working on was ‘68: Hallowed Ground,” explained Jay Fotos who has collaborated with fellow artists Medors, Kyle Charles, and Nat Jones as well as writer Mark Kidwell to produce the one-shot comic. “Josh was a true fan of horror, loved zombies and was very excited to be working on a‘68 title. You can see the passion and care Josh gave his work on the book in the startling imagery of his cover. In tribute and thanks to our friend, the entire '68 crew has worked diligently to ensure that every thumbnail and layout Josh produced went into the final look and feel of the book."
'68: Hallowed Ground goes on sale November 6, 2013 and can be pre-ordered from the September issue of Previews; the one-shot comic features two separate covers by Josh Medors and Bernie Wrightson. Visit the official '68 website.
