Laura Prepon to leave Orange is the New Black

Uproxx has reported that Laura Prepon will only appear a few times in the next season of the popular new Netflix series Orange is the New Black. Prepon plays Alex Vause on the series; the lesbian drug-dealer who, lead character Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling), had a relationship with and ended up in jail because of Alex.

This seems like an odd move considering Alex is a huge part of the story and I’m not sure how well the show would work without her. The show is based off of a book so they may be following what happens in the book but it still seems like an odd move. While she will be in a limited number of episodes the door will apparently be left open for her character to return.

Orange is the New Black was quite the surprise of a show. Creator Jenji Kohan helped create a first season that may have actually been better than the first season of her previous show, Weeds. It’ll be a huge blow to see Laura Prepon go, but hopefully they can recapture what made the first season so great in the second season.
