Convinced she's only doing what's right, she commences a search of her young employee Becky, following instructions from the officer at the other end of the phone line - no matter how invasive they become.
The story eerily mirrors the 1961 study psychologist Stanley Milgram devised, which tested how much pain an ordinary citizen would inflict on another person, simply because he was ordered by a scientist. Despite their reservations at inflicting so much pain, 100% of the subjects obeyed.
