With the Fast and Furious seriesdoing big business, it seems that vehicular based films are something everyone is going to try and get in on. With Legendary working on a Hot Wheels movie, and DreamWorks making use of the Need for Speed license, Sony are also stepping up to the plate. With Gran Turismo.
Now, I'm not really sure how they are going to do this, unless the film centres on cornering speeds, fitting a stage 3 turbo, and endurance races. There is no storyline to the GT series so who knows how this could go.
At present there are few details on the film, which reportedly has Fifty Shades of Grey producers Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti on board. Many video game adaptations have been green-lit in the past only to remain in development hell for years.
The game series has so far sold over 70 million copies, so Sony are clearly banking on there being a ready-made market for the movie.
Hey, it can't be worse then Battleship as an adaptation... can it?
