UK box office top ten and analysis for the weekend of Friday 12th to Sunday 14th October 2012...
Count Dracula and his monstrous buddies were no match for Bryan Mills at the UK box office this past weekend, with the Liam Neeson action sequel Taken 2 retaining first place ahead of the CG animated comedy Hotel Transylvania, which opened with £1,734,231. Taken 2 on the other hand pulled in a second-weekend haul of £3.74m for an impressive £14.5m after just 11 days on screens; only The Dark Knight Rises, The Avengers, The Amazing Spider-Man, Ted and Prometheus have exceeded that, so it will be interesting to see how much longer Neeson's retired CIA agent can keep up the pace with this year's big hitters.
Holding on to third place in its second week was the well-reviewed horror Sinister with £1.26m, while Rian Johnson's sci-fi thriller Looper fell two spots to fourth and was the only other film to hit seven figures with £1.18m. The Perks of Being a Wallflower slipped one place to fifth, followed by two new releases: Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris' Ruby Sparks disappointed in sixth with just £299,382 from 308 screens, while the long-awaited Jack Kerouac adaptation On the Road claimed seventh with £218,738 from less than a third of those screens. Elsewhere, ParaNorman and The Campaign fell three apiece to eighth and ninth, leaving Untouchable to round out the chart in tenth.
