The series is written by Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies) and centres on the relationship between FBI agent Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) and his mentor Dr. Hannibal Lecter - characters created by Thomas Harris in his 1981 novel Red Dragon.
There have been several big screen adaptations of the Hannibal Lector story, most notably 1991’s The Silence of the Lambs featuring Anthony Hopkins (Thor) as the serial killer and Jodie Foster (Panic Room) as FBI agent Clarice Starling. Hopkins reprised his role several times; in 2001 for the sequel Hannibal and in 2002 for the film Red Dragon in which Edward Norton (Fight Club) played Will Graham. The most recent adaptation was 2006’s Hannibal Rising which explored Lecter's development into a serial killer, where he was portrayed by Gaspard Ulliel (A Very Long Engagement) and eight-year-old Aaran Thomas (The Rain Horse).
