Looper's Timeline Explained

There's a bit in Rian Johnson's time-travel crime film Looper that throws you completely off the scent. It lasts for a few scenes, where you helplessly look around the cinema at other spectators helplessly looking around the cinema, but then, hopefully, you fall back into the narrative and enjoy what is a spiffing good romp.

Tread carefully. Major spoilers ahead.

That 'bit' is a break in the loop. This is no 12 Monkeys (strangely, another Bruce Willis film), which concretely adheres to not changing your own past. It jars the brain and doesn't quite work. Thankfully, the chaps over at Wired have created a handy little timeline:

Note: Nice use of a question mark at the end of the bottom timeline. It recalls one of those old 50s B-movies where a '?' would fade in over THE END conclusion card.
