Guardians of the Galaxy
Next year Marvel Studios will expand the cosmic aspect of its Cinematic Universe with the James Gunn-directed Guardians of the Galaxy, and it seems that Marvel's animation division may be set to lay the foundations for the "big space epic" with a new cartoon series based around the intergalactic superhero team.

"Now look, I can't officially confirm that we spent a LOT of time talking about the Guardians of the Galaxy cartoon but wouldn't that HYPOTHETICALLY… be amazing?" writes Marvel editor Steve Wacker in the latest issue of the Guardians comic book (via Digital Spy). "Seriously though, don't ask me about it because it totally didn't happen."

Marvel currently has two animated series airing on Disney XD, with Ultimate Spider-Man and Avengers Assemble set to be joined next month by a third, the comedy series Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.. Meanwhile, cameras are currently rolling on the Guardians movie, with Gunn directing a cast that includes Chris Pratt (Parks and Recreation) as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana (Avatar) as Gamora, Dave Bautista (Riddick) as Drax the Destroyer, Michael Rooker (The Walking Dead) as Yondu, John C. Reilly (Step Brothers) as Rhomman Dey, Glenn Close (Damages) as the leader of the Nova Corps and Benicio Del Toro (Sin City), Lee Pace (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug) and Ophelia Lovibond (London Boulevard) as as-yet-unrevealed villains.
