After lining up alongside fellow icons Sylvester Stallone and Bruce Willis in this year's action ensemble The Expendables 2, former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to get back down to business headlining his own star vehicles next year. First out of the gate is director Kim Jee-woon's (I Saw the Devil) English-language debut The Last Stand, and thanks to AICN we have a rather cool poster for the action-comedy that's doing the rounds at the New York Comic Con this weekend...

Arnie is joined in the cast of The Last Stand by Eduardo Noriega (The Devil's Backbone), Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland), Peter Stormare (Fargo), Johnny Knoxville (Jackass), Jaimie Alexander (Thor), Zach Gilford (Friday Night Lights), Genesis Rodriguez (Casa de mi Padre), Luis Guzman (The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3), Rodrigo Santoro (300) and Harry Dean Stanton (Alien); here's the official synopsis:

After leaving his LAPD narcotics post following a bungled operation that left him wracked with remorse and regret, Sheriff Ray Owens (Schwarzenegger) moved out of Los Angeles and settled into a life fighting what little crime takes place in sleepy border town Sommerton Junction. But that peaceful existence is shattered when Gabriel Cortez (Noriega), the most notorious, wanted drug kingpin in the western hemisphere, makes a deadly yet spectacular escape from an FBI prisoner convoy. With the help of a fierce band of lawless mercenaries led by the icy Burrell (Stormare), Cortez begins racing towards the US-Mexico border at 250 mph in a specially-outfitted Corvette ZR1 with a hostage in tow.

Cortez’ path: straight through Sommerton Junction, where the whole of the U.S. law enforcement, including Agent John Bannister (Whitaker) will have their final opportunity to intercept him before the violent fugitive slips across the border forever. At first reluctant to become involved, and then counted out because of the perceived ineptitude of his small town force, Owens ultimately rallies his team and takes the matter into his own hands, setting the stage for a classic showdown.

The Last Stand is scheduled for release in North America on January 18th 2013 and hits the UK the following week. Check out the trailer here
