It is a sad, sad piece of news for us to report, but Richard Matheson has passed away at the age of 87.

When talking about the accomplishments of Richard Matheson, it's really hard to know where to start. His novels included I Am Legend, The Shrinking Man, What Dreams May Come and Hell House and he became a figure head of science fiction writing.

He was also the writer of many short stories that would be adapted into episodes of Rod Serling's The Twilight Zone and he would eventually become a prolific writer on the series.

One of his short stories would become Duel, the first movie directed by Steven Spielberg. More recently, his short stories have been the basis for feature length movies The Box and Real Steel.

He leaves behind an incredible body of work and will forever be remembered for his contributions to the science fiction community.

Matheson is survived by his wife and four children. The thoughts of the Flickering Myth writing staff are with them.

Rest in peace Richard Matheson. It's been a pleasure.
