A new trailer for horror movie The Colony has emerged, revealing more of the film’s monsters.
Set in a ruined future caused by burning all our fossil fuels and tampering with nature (subtle message there maybe?), all humans are living in colonies under the snow. Colony 7 is lead by Briggs (Laurence Fishburne; Man of Steel) and after receiving a distress signal from Colony 5, decides to investigate. This uncovers a monstrous threat to their very existence.
It’s not clear yet, but extreme hunger plus, perhaps, some virus created by the changed earth, has caused the inhabitants of Colony 5 to become cannibals. In the trailer, the cannibals look and act seem to be a cross between the vampires from 30 Days of Night and the zombies from 28 Days Later. The trailer reminds me of both of those movies, as well as the 1982 classic, The Thing.
The film also stars Bill Paxton (Twister, Aliens, True Lies), Kevin Zegers (Dawn of the Dead, Transamerica, Gossip Girl) and Charlotte Sullivan (Harriet the Spy, Defendor, The Kennedys)
Here’s the official synopsis, followed by the trailer below:
Set during the next Ice Age, The Colony follows an outpost of colonists who struggle to survive below the world’s frozen surface. Short on supplies and plagued by illness and internal conflict, the colonists suspect the worst when they mysteriously lose contact with their only other known settlement, Colony 5. When Colony 7′s leader Briggs (Laurence Fishburne) decides to lead an expedition to discover what happened, he is challenged by Mason (Bill Paxton), his former comrade-in-arms, who has his own ideas of what is best for the colonists. Briggs takes two volunteers on the mission, the young Graydon and Sam (Kevin Zegers), a strong-willed mechanic who seizes the opportunity to confront the icy wasteland that orphaned him. When they reach their destination, the team discover a threat much worse than nature and must battle to save themselves and protect their fellow colonists in what might be humanity’s last stand.
