Zack Snyder may be a little preoccupied rebooting Superman with Man of Steel, but he's still found time to write and produce a sequel to his bloody 2006 comic book adaptation 300, handing over directing duties to Noam Murro (Smart People) for the follow-up 300: Rise of an Empire, which has just received its first trailer ahead of its release early next year. Check it out after the official synopsis...
Based on Frank Miller’s latest graphic novel Xerxes, and told in the breathtaking visual style of the blockbuster 300, this new chapter of the epic saga takes the action to a fresh battlefield—on the sea—as Greek general Themistocles attempts to unite all of Greece by leading the charge that will change the course of the war. 300: Rise of an Empire pits Themistocles against the massive invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes, and Artemesia, vengeful commander of the Persian navy.
300: Rise of an Empire sees Rodrigo Santoro (Xerxes) and Lena Headey (Queen Gorgo) reprising their roles from the original, while newcomers to the cast include Sullivan Stapleton (Animal Kingdom) as Themistocles, Eva Green (Sin City: A Dame to Kill For) as Artemisia, Callan Mulvey (Zero Dark Thirty) as Scyllias and Jack O'Connell (Skins) as Calisto.
300: Rise of an Empire is set for release on March 7th, 2014.
