For cosplayers an imprint of Image Comics is planning to provide some wish fulfilment at San Diego Comic-Con which is being held from July 17 to 21, 2013. Whether attending as Witchblade or a member of Cyber Force or as Aphrodite IX, pay Top Cow’s booth (#2629) a visit as your photograph may appear within the pages of a comic book.
“We are trying to do more things that show our appreciation to our very loyal fans,” Siike Donnelly, Top Cow’s new marketing manager, stated. “The goal is to be more inclusive, build a stronger relationship with our fans, old and new. As a former cosplayer myself, I know the work that goes in to creating some of these amazing costumes. It’s a true art form.” Donnelly added, “If you cosplay as one of our characters in San Diego, we want to put you in our books as a ‘thank you’ for your hard work and passion for your art.”
A creative partnership between Image Comics and the creators of Todd, the Ugliest Kid on Earth will see the four-issue miniseries expanded into an ongoing series following it being released as a trade paperback collection on August 7, 2013.
The new story arc by MK Perker and Ken Kristensen arrives in September 2013; it explores “the unholy intersection of comic book conventions, public television, and paranormal investigation, as Todd unwittingly uncovers a conspiracy that literally goes as deep as the depths of Hell.”
"It was always our hope that we'd be able to make Toddan ongoing series, but it wasn't just the critical and commercial success of Todd that compelled us," said artist Perker. "It was public service! I don't think it's hyperbole to say that Armageddon is upon us. And with the next story arc, Charlie Rose's Table: Public Broadcasting Satan, Todd is the only thing that stands between Charlie Rose and global catastrophe."
Writer Kristensen remarked, "The survival of PBS in American culture has always been difficult to explain. A television network with high artistic standards, educational programming, and a ratings juggernaut in Downton Abbey? Clearly they've made a deal with the devil — and starting with issue #5 Todd, the Ugliest Kid on Earth will unearth the ugly truth."
