Deadline is reporting that CBS Films has offered Chris Hemsworth (Thor) a cool $10 million dollars to star in an adaptation of Vince Flynn’s bestselling novel series American Assassin as terrorist hunter Mitch Rapp. Jeffrey Nachmanoff (Traitor, The Day After Tomorrow) is set to direct the film.
American Assassin is the eleventh book in the Vince Flynn series and is in fact a prequel which explains the background story of the hero Mitch Rapp and how tragedy transformed him from a college scholar and athlete into a ruthless hunter of terrorists for the CIA. There are also rumours that Bruce Willis (The Expendables 2) is in talks to play Rapp’s mentor.
Hemsworth is certainly shaping up to be Hollywood’s new action hero following a string of blockbuster movies such as Thor, The Avengers and Snow White and the Huntsman. He is currently shooting Thor: The Dark World, the follow up to the 2011 hit movie, and has also signed on for the lead alongside Anne Hathaway (The Dark Knight Rises) in Steven Spielberg's Robopocalypse, which is based on the bestselling novel by Daniel H. Wilson and is set in the aftermath of a robot uprising. Robopocalypse is scheduled for release in April 2014.
