Speaking at the 2013 Produced by Conference on Saturday, director J.J. Abrams has revealed that Star Wars: Episode VII will begin filming in early 2014, with the production on the first chapter of Disney's Star Wars Sequel Trilogy setting up base camp here in the UK.
"Most likely we are going to be moving to London at the end of the year for the Star Wars movie," said Abrams, before revealing that he'd prefer to shoot in Los Angeles and the decision to shoot in the UK - which was made before he became attached to the project - "drives me insane".
As for his approach to Episode VII, the Star Trek Into Darkness director remained tight-lipped, offering "no comment" when asked if the new films would employ elements of the Expanded Universe and stating only that "I think that the thing is so big and so massive to so many people that the key to moving forward is honoring but not revering what went before."
Star Wars: Episode VII is scheduled for release in 2015, with the likes of Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Harrison Ford (Han Solo) and Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) expected to reprise their iconic roles from the Original Trilogy.
